Manchester City Football Club

Manchester City may have only finished fourth in the premier League last season, but they will have a much better chance of winning the whole league this coming year following the signings of Gael Clichy and Sergio Aguero in the summer. If they can also hold onto Tevez – although this looks unlikely – they will have one of the most dangerous strike forces in the whole of Europe. They also have Ballottelli, even if Tevez does leave, and then they have David Silva who has the subtlety to find space between the opposition’s lines of defence and midfield. Ya Toure had also blossomed into the kind of raiding central midfielder who can take any game by the scruff of its neck in the mould of Steven Gerrard, so Mancini has every reason to be confident in the fact that they can become much more than just Manchester United’s ‘noisy neighbours’.

Their defence is also rock solid, which is why their premier league betting odds will be much steeper than last year. Vincent Kompany and Jolean Lescott have become a central defensive partnership that will be able to keep out most attacks, and the recent acquisition of Gael Clichy at left-back means that they are also strong at full-back – they have Micah Richards at right-back who will most likely be England’s right-back for years to come, as well as Joe Hart in goal who has been a revelation between the sticks since his emergence from their youth system.

Their midfield is also incredibly strong, with the perfect balance between stoppers and creators. Adam Johnson has the pace and trickery to torment any fullback, while Gareth Barry can create and destroy, which is why he is their captain and will always be in their starting eleven. Premier league odds always vary depending on where you choose to lay your bet, but you can be sure that whichever bookie you use, Manchester City will be one of the favourites for the Premiership in the 2011/12 season.
